Cartouches  These cartouches are small mural elements painted in the ballroom of the Summerour House at Autrey Mill Preserve and Heritage Center.  A cartouche is a sculpted ornamental scroll framing an inscription, portrait, or scene.  In this case the sculpted frame is painted in trompe l'oeil.
